Multismart Benifits
Reduced Capital Costs
Emerald have designed the pumping station with cost in mind but at no time compromising system functionally. A costing exercise has been carried out and in current cases the capital cost is less than a standard pumping station based on a 5.5kW duty/Standby pump station in a kiosk.
The civil cost for this pumping station would also be less as the footprint for the base would also be dramatically reduced.
Reduced size
Emerald have designed the system into the smallest possible kiosk without restricting access to the system nor making installation or maintenance an impossibility. View Image
Reduced Running Costs
The Multismart controller along with many other functions can run with up to sixdifferent pumping regimes and as the device runs in real time it can automatically switch to pump less when in peak tariff situations. It has so much functionally that it is able to recognised flow and would only switch in a peak tariff period if the flow did not exceed a set figure. This would ensure the system requirement would never be compromised.
Emerald have integrated variable speed drives into the solution which starts to add huge cost saving benefits. Our system will automatically run the motor at its optimum point on the pump curve providing incoming flows will allow this to happen.
Basic calculations:
One 5.5kW pump running for 5000hrs at 90% full load could give an energy cost reduction of £300.00
One 90kW pump running for 5000hrs at 90% full load could give an energy cost reduction of £4,900.00
These calculation purely give the cost saving of using a variable speed drive in the application, we must also understand that with this system in place a water company could negotiate a better tariff which would show additional savings.
Increased Functionality
The drives would offer monitoring of the motors and checking prior to starting. This would be integrated with the multistart to give full motor data.
The Multismart would offer the following functionality
Intuitive operator interface - Configurable data logger with 50,000 events viewable on history page
- Open protocol RTU, high speed communications
- Three phase supply, current & power monitoring
- Flow calculations without a flow meter
- Flexible I/O for pump seal & thermistor, insulation resistance test
- DIN rail mounting, plug in terminal blocks
Many authorities have found that using PLCs to control and monitor pump stations results in a high lifetime cost. Operations staff are also frustrated by having a "black box" which cannot be changed without calling out an engineer.
The MultiSmart pump controller has an intuitive interface for operators and engineers. There is no programming required, instead, the station performance is adjusted by turning on features and changing parameters.
